Here’s What Jay-Z’s Alleged Mistress Posted Days Before Beyoncé’s New Album Released

Beyoncé’s highly-anticipated new album Cowboy Carter has reignited long-standing rumors about her husband Jay-Z’s alleged infidelity. The album, which sees Queen Bey putting her spin on classic country songs, contains pointed lyrics that have fans wondering – who is the “Becky with the good hair” she referenced on her iconic 2016 visual album Lemonade?

All signs are pointing to fashion designer Rachel Roy as the alleged mistress. Just days before Cowboy Carter was released worldwide, Roy posted a cryptic quote on Instagram that immediately raised eyebrows. “Some look to be overjoyed at every turn, every decision, every moment, others look to be annoyed at every moment, pointing out all negatives that might go wrong. Which are you?” the quote read, attributed to Albert Einstein. Roy added her own commentary, saying “My wish today: May I look to be overjoyed with every moment. May I see the beauty in everyone and myself. May I only be around those that do the same.”

The timing of Roy’s philosophical musing struck many as suspicious. It came just as Beyoncé’s new album, especially her cover of the classic Dolly Parton song “Jolene,” was reviving the accusations of a romantic rival trying to steal Jay-Z away. “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene / I’m warnin’ you, don’t come for my man / Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene / Don’t take the chance because you think you can,” Beyoncé sings in a fierce warning on the track. So was Roy’s post a denial of rumors, an attempt to get ahead of impending drama, or just an ill-timed reflection? Fans of the BeyHive were not eager to give her the benefit of the doubt. The affair allegations go back to the infamous 2014 Met Gala elevator incident when shocking footage emerged of Beyoncé’s sister Solange violently attacking Jay-Z, allegedly over his infidelity.

When Beyoncé later sang about a “Becky with the good hair” on Lemonade, many deduced she meant Roy given the designer’s previous professional ties to Jay-Z through his Rocawear clothing line. Roy leaned into the rumors and backlash at the time with an Instagram post that said “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always.” She quickly deleted the post amid trolling from the BeyHive but the damage was done – Roy was cemented as the suspected “Becky” worldwide.

Jay-Z would later admit to unfaithfulness on his 2017 album 4:44, without identifying his mistress. Now with Cowboy Carter’s charged lyrics, the firestorm has reignited. On her reimagined “Jolene” cover, Beyoncé defiantly warns “I’m still a Creole banshee b*tch from Louisiana / Don’t try me.” Many fans are scrutinizing again exactly who she’s calling out. Roy’s recent cryptic Instagram post has only added fuel to the flames of speculation about her rumored involvement with Jay-Z. While the truth may never be known for certain, the enduring power of Beyoncé’s music to spark such discourse shows the lasting impact of her artistic vision.
